Big Issue 1

Background

The Big Issue Foundation is the charitable arm of The Big Issue magazine. Their vision is to create opportunities that will end poverty and exclusion for Big Issue vendors and their mission is to connect Big Issue vendors to the vital support and personal solutions that enable them to rebuild their lives.

By supporting individuals who have taken the first step towards working themselves out of poverty, The Big Issue Foundation is able to make a significant impact on levels of social and financial inclusion.

Funding Focus

This funding will be used to support the holistic front-line work with Big Issue vendors, with a focus on work-related aspirations.

More specifically the grant will cover the cost of a team leader, who as well as the provision of holistic support, does a significant amount of work in the area of brokering training, volunteering and work opportunities for Big Issue vendors.

Part of the funding will also be used to sponsor a national 'work aspirations' week. A key aspect of this week will be a dedicated consultation with vendors to assess their needs and whether different types of support can be made available to them.
