Lime Energy is a forward-thinking organization in the energy efficiency industry, with a mission to “empower small businesses, energize communities and advance clean energy.” To continue standing out as a top employer, the organization needed to connect employees to its purpose, mission and values and increase employee satisfaction levels.

With 300 employees, spread out across five offices in the U.S. – specifically with about one-third of employees on the road each day – the organization realized the fast-moving pace of its business meant that the employees were losing their day-to-day connection to the mission, and to one another.
As its mission is key to helping the organization stand out as a top place to work in the industry, Lime Energy participates in the annual Great Places to Work survey each year to keep a pulse on the employee experience. It’s the organization’s goal to increase and improve its results year after year – highlighting the need to improve employee satisfaction and boost employee appreciation efforts.
To move these efforts forward, the business wanted to create a centralized place where employees could feel more connected to the organization’s purpose, and understand what made Lime Energy an amazing place to work.
To support these objectives, Lime Energy took the first step towards improving satisfaction levels by launching a strategic employee recognition and reward program with Reward Gateway, named Bright Stars. On the platform, employees can send one another digital greetings, including wishing someone a happy birthday, saying congratulations or welcoming someone to the team – helping to fuel connectivity in the workplace.
Alongside these eCards, employees can also send one another values-based eCards, including “Passionate,” “Customer Focused” and “Adaptable,” helping to reinforce company values, connect employees to the overall mission and recognize desirable behaviors.
Bright Stars also houses manager awards, which allow managers to shine a spotlight on a person (or team) who has truly exceeded the expectation of their role and had a significant impact on the company and those around them. Employees can receive two different types of awards from their managers:
These awards and eCards live on a social recognition wall to increase visibility, improve relationships and acknowledge how people across the organization live and breathe the company values – all available on any device, at any time. Employees who are on the road have access to smartphones and tablets, helping them stay connected to various projects and teammates through on-the-go strategic moments of recognition.
To encourage employees to interact more with the Bright Stars program, Lime Energy added an announcement to the homepage of Bright Stars, educating employees about Reward Gateway’s Connect+ mobile recognition and communications app, to keep teams connected across the country.
Through effective communications, employees can discover best practices for downloading and using the app to ensure they never miss a beat. In fact, in the first month after the launch of Bright Stars, nearly 50% of employees sent eCards and managers across different teams sent 33 awards.
